What if…
An app that delivers short, conversational lessons through AI-driven chat, allowing users to learn at their own pace with minimal cognitive load and real-time feedback. This case study details our journey from research and ideation to a lean design process that prioritized high-fidelity testing for a Minimum Viable Product (MVP), now in alpha testing.
Discovering key user needs
Users often felt overwhelmed by long videos and dense text, making it difficult to stay engaged.
Many expressed a desire for quick, effective learning formats that would replace traditional, text-heavy content.
Professionals with busy schedules emphasized the need for flexibility, preferring lessons they could complete in small, manageable segments rather than committing to extended study sessions.
HMW's
HMW make learning engaging without overwhelming users with long content?
HMW adapt content to fit each user’s pace and schedule?
HMW create a conversational learning experience rather than a passive one?
HMW reinforce learning through short, interactive feedback loops?
User stories
Key features
Initial concepts and user flow
To quickly validate our core ideas within the scope of an MVP, we created very lo-fi wireframes focused on essential screens. This allowed us to test basic interactions before moving into high-fidelity design, ensuring that the MVP met the core user needs.
Accelerating to Hi-Fi design for fast validation
Given the need for quick validation of our MVP, we moved directly from lo-fi wireframes to high-fidelity designs. This shift allowed us to test a near-final version of the product, focusing on real user responses to the visual and interactive aspects of the app. Our high-fidelity designs showcased polished UI elements, colors, and layouts that would resonate with our user personas.
Key design elements
The high-fidelity screens represent a refined, visually cohesive experience:
Due to NDA protection and the product’s stage, some parts of the designs are censored.
Splash and pre-onboarding
A warm and inviting entry point that introduces users to the app’s focus on accessible, AI-driven learning. Providing a quick introduction to the app’s benefits and chat-based learning format, setting clear expectations for new users.
Register screens
Streamlined for simplicity, with easy login options for returning users to minimize friction.
Home and courses list
Organized for clarity, with visible progress indicators that enable users to navigate and choose courses quickly.
Chat - Conversational AI agent interface
Showcase the adaptive chat interface, making learning feel interactive and responsive.
Certifications and progress tracking
Allows users to view achievements and track progress, reinforcing motivation and engagement.
Alpha testing and next steps
With the high-fidelity design complete, the app has moved into alpha testing to validate its core features and user experience. This approach allows us to gather immediate feedback on both the design and functionality, ensuring the MVP aligns with user expectations. Initial feedback has been positive, with 87% of users indicating increased engagement and motivation due to the chat format, instant feedback, progress tracking, and the addition of dark mode for improved usability.
Projected outcomes
Alpha testing will provide additional insights to refine the MVP before a broader release, ensuring that each feature supports user needs and expectations. Based on user responses, we anticipate improved retention and course completion rates, driven by the app’s flexible, interactive approach and adaptable UI.
