Helping small businesses in Venezuela navigate economic challenges with MOVI – a simple, secure payment solution that integrates WeSend wallets and MOVI card distribution.
Project overview
MOVI is a solution designed to help small businesses in Venezuela manage payments more efficiently during challenging economic conditions. The app allows merchants to accept payments directly from WeSend wallets, either by using a phone number or scanning the QR code linked to the WeSend card. In addition to accepting payments, MOVI also enabled merchants to create and distribute MOVI cards to non-WeSend users, offering a new way to make payments and recharge cards for family members. This project aimed to provide a simple, secure, and reliable way for small merchants to handle payments, avoiding the instability of the national currency.
Target audience
The primary target audience for MOVI was small businesses in Venezuela, which were struggling to manage transactions in an economy where the national currency, the bolívar, was rapidly losing value. Many of their customers were already using the WeSend wallet, and MOVI gave these businesses a way to accept payments seamlessly through the WeSend platform.
The problem
Due to the economic instability in Venezuela, small merchants were facing difficulties accepting payments in bolívares, as the currency was subject to constant devaluation. They needed an alternative that would allow them to receive payments in a more stable form of currency. MOVI, by leveraging cryptocurrency through the WeSend wallet, provided a reliable solution that helped businesses avoid losses caused by inflation and currency devaluation.
Additionally, MOVI offered merchants a way to generate and distribute MOVI cards to customers who were not using WeSend, allowing them to recharge these cards and give them to family members for purchases in any location where the MOVI system was supported.
Design & user experience goals
The key goal was to create a simple and user-friendly interface that would allow merchants to process payments and manage card distribution with ease. Given that many small business owners were not highly tech-savvy, the interface had to be intuitive, reducing friction in the payment process while maintaining a high level of security. To ensure this, a visual validation system was implemented, allowing merchants to confirm the buyer’s identity via photo confirmation during the transaction, adding an extra layer of security.
Key features
MOVI provided several features that helped small businesses manage their transactions efficiently:
MOVI’s streamlined login and payment calculator interface allows merchants to quickly process payments without hassle.
Visual confirmation ensures that merchants can securely validate the customer’s identity before completing the transaction.
Displaying granular transaction details enhances transparency and builds user confidence in the platform’s reliability.
Conclusion
MOVI was successful in providing small merchants with a secure and efficient way to process payments without relying on the unstable bolívar. Additionally, the ability to generate and distribute MOVI cards opened up new opportunities for merchants to serve customers beyond the WeSend ecosystem, further expanding their reach.
