WeSend Wallet

Simplifying crypto remittances

WeSend Wallet makes sending remittances easier, faster, and more affordable. With low fees, secure blockchain technology, and flexible options for your family to receive funds, you can transfer money with confidence, whether through a direct deposit or a reloadable card.

Project overview

WeSend Wallet is designed to bridge the gap between traditional remittance methods and cryptocurrency, specifically targeting the Venezuelan diaspora in Colombia. The application simplifies sending remittances using cryptocurrencies, providing users with a secure, intuitive platform to transfer money across borders, particularly for those unfamiliar with blockchain technology. The app leverages blockchain technology and a peer-to-peer network, ensuring transparency and security in every transaction.

The problem

Sending remittances through traditional channels often involves high fees, lengthy processing times, and uncertainty about the safety of funds. Many users, especially those unfamiliar with cryptocurrencies, found the process overwhelming and lacked trust in digital transactions.

Key challenges identified

  1. Complexity of cryptocurrency: Many potential users lacked familiarity with the mechanics of sending and receiving digital currency.

  2. Transparency & trust: Users needed assurance that their funds would be handled securely, especially in regions with economic instability.

  3. User engagement: Remittance users required a simple, guided experience to avoid confusion, especially when managing larger transactions or adding funds.

The solution

WeSend Wallet’s solution was built around providing simplicity and trust, ensuring that users could complete remittance transactions with minimal effort, clear steps, and full transparency at each stage. Key features were designed with usability at the core, balancing both the financial security of blockchain and the simplicity required by users new to cryptocurrency.

Key features

A designed key user flows and features to improve user confidence, simplify actions, and guide users through the app. Screenshots below demonstrate how these features were designed and refined.

Sign-up process

The sign-up process is designed to be quick, secure, and user-friendly, requiring only minimal information: either an email address or a phone number. Users are prompted to create a 4-digit PIN and answer security questions for an additional layer of security. The process is seamless across both desktop and mobile platforms, ensuring easy access for all users, regardless of device.

Activity

The transaction history screen provides users with a detailed overview of all past and current transactions. Clear indicators show whether a transaction is pending, completed, or failed, ensuring transparency at every step. Users can track their transaction history on both desktop and mobile, keeping them informed and engaged in real time.

Clear transaction statuses (pending, completed) build trust and offer transparency, ensuring users feel in control of their remittances.

Transaction details

One of the priorities during the design phase was to create a fast and simple registration process. Users only need to provide a phone number or email, set up a 4-digit PIN for security, and configure security questions. This straightforward onboarding process ensures that users, even those unfamiliar with fintech apps, can easily get started.

Displaying granular transaction details enhances transparency and builds user confidence in the platform’s reliability.

Profile with Wallet hash and QR code and admin stuff

The profile section is the central hub for managing personal account details. Users can easily access their unique wallet hash and QR code, which they can share to receive funds quickly and securely. Additionally, they can link a traditional bank account directly within the profile, enabling smooth transfers between their wallet and bank account.

Combining crypto wallet management with traditional banking options in one intuitive profile streamlines the user experience, making it easier for users to handle both types of transactions without jumping through multiple hoops.

Send money & add funds

The “Send Money” feature allows users to transfer funds to another wallet quickly and efficiently. They can input the recipient’s name, email, phone number, or wallet hash, or simply scan a QR code to complete the transaction. The add funds flow is a guided process that walks users through setting the desired amount, confirming payment instructions, and uploading proof of transfer. Each step is clearly communicated, reducing any guesswork.

The simplicity of the “Send Money” feature and the step-by-step “Add Funds” process reduce cognitive load, making cryptocurrency transactions accessible even to those with minimal experience. Providing multiple input options for sending money and detailed guidance for adding funds enhances user confidence and minimizes errors.

Available recharges & active orders

When users need to fund their wallets with larger amounts, the platform offers peer-to-peer options via available recharges. This allows users to buy cryptocurrency from verified dealers within the app. Conversely, users who wish to sell their cryptocurrency can publish an offer, which is then visible to others in the community as an active recharge option. This system fosters a dynamic marketplace within the app, where users can trade crypto securely.

Introducing a peer-to-peer marketplace for buying and selling cryptocurrency encourages user interaction and liquidity within the app. By ensuring security and transparency in these transactions, users are more likely to engage with the platform, knowing that they can trust the community-driven ecosystem.

How we arrived at the solution:

The design process focused on deeply understanding the users’ needs. Through interviews and surveys, we discovered that users faced multiple friction points, such as the lack of access to reliable payment methods and the high fees they had to pay to intermediaries. These critical points guided us toward the idea of eliminating intermediaries and leveraging the potential of cryptocurrencies.

Blockchain technology offered a way to guarantee the security and transparency that users required. Once we identified blockchain as the technological solution, we designed a simple flow where users could follow each step of the transaction, from topping up the wallet to sending the funds. At the same time, we understood that blockchain technology and cryptocurrency usage could be complex for users, so we made sure to simplify the interface and provide a design that intuitively guided users through the entire process.

The card option arose after our initial testing iterations, where some users expressed the need to have more flexible access to the funds without always relying on bank transfers.

1.

User research and analysis

Interviews and surveys: We interviewed potential users to understand their needs and friction points. We also conducted surveys to gather data about remittance sending methods.

Paper Prototyping: We created physical prototypes to simulate the user flow and validate it with participants.

Challenges & iterations

Simplifying the process of adding cryptocurrency funds proved to be one of the biggest challenges. Early testing indicated confusion around certain crypto terms and processes. To address this, step-by-step guidance, visual cues, and supportive messaging were added throughout the key flows. The add funds flow, in particular, was refined multiple times to ensure users could follow the steps without needing prior knowledge of cryptocurrency.

The results

WeSend Wallet delivered significant improvements, helping users send remittances faster and with greater confidence:

  • 30% increase in successful transactions, attributed to the simplified transaction flow and improved clarity around payment status.

  • Higher retention rates, as users found the platform easy to navigate and trusted the real-time updates on transactions.

  • Greater engagement from premium users, thanks to advanced features like the wallet hash, QR code payments, and the ability to track transactions in detail.

Conclusion

WeSend Wallet successfully transformed the user experience for cross-border remittances using cryptocurrency. By focusing on simplicity, transparency, and trust, the platform has made digital remittances accessible to users who previously found the process complex and intimidating. With a well-designed interface and user-centric features, WeSend Wallet has built a solid foundation for both beginner and experienced users, providing a reliable, secure, and intuitive way to send money across borders.
