Mobile UX

“One-Hand Wonder” – Designing for Thumb Zones

Design a mobile home screen for a personal finance app that’s fully usable with just one thumb. Think about reach, ergonomics, and prioritization.

User Persona

Jordan, 34, rides the subway every morning and checks her budget with one hand while holding coffee in the other.

Constraints

  • Everything must be reachable with the right thumb (right-handed default)

  • Max 4 nav items

  • Avoid top-of-screen actions

Bonus

Add a “Quick Add Expense” feature as a floating thumb-friendly button.

Suggested Tools

Figma (use device frames!), Maze (for thumb testing), Zeplin (for handoff)

Brand Vibes

YNAB, Cleo, Emma

Tip

📱 Design where the thumb lives, not where your brain wants it to go. Use heat maps or thumb zone charts if needed!
